Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary

I don't usually comment on American politics. I have some fine friends who do a better job than I could. That's why I keep them around.

Instead, I do what I can to find voters. I'm secretary of Democrats Abroad Spain, and I'd like to ask you to pass on this message to any Americans you know living overseas.

Democrats Abroad, which is the overseas branch of the U.S. Democratic Party, with members in more than 100 countries, will hold a global Democratic presidential candidate primary election Feb. 5 to 12. Members can vote by Internet, snailmail, or in-person at local polling places.

The results will determine the makeup of Democrats Abroad's 22-member delegation to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August.

Any U.S. citizen living temporarily or permanently overseas can vote. This includes college students studying abroad. Voters must be 18 years old on or before Nov. 4 and be members of Democrats Abroad. They must declare upon voting that they will not vote in their home state's Democratic presidential primary, though they can vote for other federal, state, and local candidates and ballot issues. There is no fee for membership. They must sign up by Jan. 31.
